Senior Years

Year 11 and 12 has a focus on leadership and personal growth students are encouraged to focus on their future pathways and grow as a mature young adult. Students create in consultation with their parents and teachers an individual learning pathway. Students are encouraged to consider their strengths and passions when making this plan for their future which may lead to further tertiary education at University or TAFE, Vocational training or entry directly into the workforce.

Year 11

In Year 11 students continue their career education through their Forum lessons. During these lessons students also have the opportunity to review their SET plans to reflect their changing ideas and plans about the future. They also have sessions to work on study skills, resume writing and cover letters.

Year 11 is the ideal time to actively explore pathway plans before the increased intensity of Year 12 study. Students can do this in a wide variety of ways including enrichment programs such as becoming a UQ Science Ambassador, attending Griffith Business School or engaging in tertiary study at QUT or UQ. They can learn more about tertiary options by attending Open Days or University Experience Days. Career exploration events such as Work Inspiration programs or Defence Work Experience are also very beneficial. These opportunities are advertised regularly via email and in the Carmel College newsletter.  Students in grade 11 also have the opportunity to attend TAFE study or undertake a school based apprenticeship or traineeship – this can be an excellent choice for students who feel they wish to get a head start on their career path.

Year 12

Students' final year in the Carmel College Senior Pathways Program is an important time as they begin their transition to life after school with the support and guidance of their parents.  We support students as they make decisions about their education, training and career options after Year 12.

QTAC

The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) is the organisation that manages the application and offer process for a number of universities, TAFE institutes and private colleges in Queensland. The QTAC application is processed online on the QTAC website at http://www.qtac.edu.au/.

QTAC/ Post School Pathway Interviews

During Term 3, each Year 12 student at Carmel College will have an individual interview with the Pathways Leader to discuss their future pathways, help with their QTAC application if that is their path or assist with their post school plans. These meetings provide students the opportunity to get the support they require at this important juncture and ensure that every student has a plan to achieve their goals after school.
