Community

The Carmel College community is made up of many parts — groups and individuals working together to create the vibrant community that we share. We pride ourselves on having a culture that is both welcoming and accepting.

We welcome the involvement of interested family, friends and community members in volunteering at our popular tuckshop, assisting with College events, or offering unique expertise for our learning experiences.

Our students develop a strong sense of community within the College through active participation in all aspects of College life. Students are also encouraged to engage with the wider community and become global citizens: we raise awareness about social justice and environmental issues, and both fundraise and hold events to acknowledge this.

Labyrinth.jpg
This artwork above depicts the Carmel Community. Inspired by First Nations art styles and symbolism the red earth reflects the Redlands where our school is located, adjacent to the blue bay and the green of Minjerribah. The central circle surrounded by the symbol for person, is the gathering of our community around the cross which is central to our faith. This central community is linked to each of the five houses – Avila (White), Champagnat (Yellow), Mackillop (Green), Polding (Blue) and Romero (Red). The outer path is a representation of Kangaroo tracks serving as a reminder of our stewardship of the earth and its creatures. The inner path is the reverse of the Kangaroo track reflecting that as human beings we have both an inner and outer journey in our lives. There is no true top or bottom to the art work and the paths have no defined beginning or end, demonstrating that as a community we enter into each journey’s in many ways and at various points. The lines all connect through the meeting places as do our lives within the Carmel Family.
